Charter Walk Kitchens Supports Charity Mind
It might be a few weeks ago now, but our team were involved in a great sporting activity for a charity we support. Two lovely ladies from Charter Walk, Jo and May, were proud to run the Royal Parks half marathon to support the great charity Mind.
May and Jo, took a break from working in the Charter Walk luxury kitchen showroom in Haslemere to run around some glorious parts of London. On Sunday 8th October, Jo and May set an early alarm ready for the 9am start of the The Royal Parks half marathon. Jo and May were joining around 16,000 brave runners taking part and thousands more spectating.
The Half Marathon Course
A 13.1 mile route on closed roads, it takes in some of the city’s most famous landmarks and four of London’s eight Royal Parks – Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens.
An undulating route, but not hilly, it’s popular among beginners and professionals alike. Thousands take part, and thousands more turn out to watch.
The race was voted the ‘best new event of the decade’ by Runner’s World in May – and it comes at the perfect time, as the Royal Parks celebrates its 10th birthday.
The race starts and finishes at the same point on the southern edge of Hyde Park, called South Carriage Drive. Runners go through Green Park and St James’ Park before paying a quick visit to Downing Street. They then head along The Strand to Somerset House and loop back past Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch and along The Mall to Buckingham Palace.
From there they go back into Green Park and through Wellington Arch, before returning to Hyde Park and taking a winding path into Kensington Gardens. The home straight takes in the Royal Albert Hall, before a sprint to the finish.
Charter Walk supports charity Mind
Jo and May chose to support Mind, the mental health charity. Mind believes that no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. They raise money to help make sure people with a mental health problem have somewhere to turn. This could be someone dealing with anxiety, depression or bipolar find the information and support they’ve been looking for by calling the Mind infoline. If you would like to donate then please use the link to Jo and May’s Just Giving page.
Comments from Jo and May
Our Charter Walk ladies had the following to say about the event:
“We are not runners – we are busy Mums, work colleagues at Charter Walk and, above all, friends. It is through our friendship that we started running together – it was a great way of getting out of the house, seeing the beautiful countryside around us and catching up on each other’s news. Our love of running spurred us on to this – a half marathon for a charity close to our hearts.
We cannot promise that we will be able to run it all, we are not setting ourselves a time to finish it in. We just want to get out of the house, see the London parks in the Autumn, have a very long chat and, above all, raise some money for MIND.”
Didn’t they do well!
Having completed the Half Marathon Jo and May treated themselves to a well earned glass of bubbles. At the time of writing Jo and May had managed to raise a fabulous £770.00 on their fund raising page. However, if you’d like to show your support for Jo, May and the great MIND charity then please follow the link below which is still open for donations:
Jo and May have now returned to the Charter Walk luxury kitchen showroom in Haslemere.
