Bespoke Kitchen, Rogate nr Petersfield

During lockdown we were asked by our clients in Rogate near Petersfield to design a bespoke kitchen to transform their old stately home kitchen. They wanted us to design a space that wasn't only a kitchen but also an area to eat, relax, socialise and entertain. On top of that they wanted include plenty of storage and include some open shelves where possible.

The kitchen has a wonderful high ceiling so it was shouting out for a feature on the far wall. To maximise the storage and to create the WOW we were looking for we took the cabinets full height and added the requested open shelving. To access the high cabinets we included a sliding solid oak ladder - this makes the cabinets practical and is a truly unique feature of this kitchen design. The ladder slides on a simple rail system and was handcrafted for our clients.

Another key feature was the large Lacanche cooker, these are incredible appliances that orginated from France and were often used in French stately homes. We wanted to enhance it and really draw the eye so we framed the cooker with a beautiful mantle surround to house the extractor. The large curved cornells and the pyramid like structure above sits beautifully on the main wall and is balanced with wall cabinets either side allowing enough breathing space either side not to cramp its style!

Of course a Charter Walk kitchen would not be complete without one of our signature larder cabinets and an island cabinet which comes off the side wall and provides enough seating for 3 stools.

We used a combination of quartz stone worktops and a more natural material on the tall feature cabinet wall surrounding the American fridge freezer. This softened, warmed and complimented the Farrow & Ball Railings dark cabinetry and really pulled the solid oak ladder in to the design.

Stunning.
